There are often doubts about buying assets between gold, stocks or land, even though to buy something you have to return to its original purpose, why buy these assets?
Is it for investment? is it for savings or just in case? or to be inherited later?.
Most view gold, stocks and land as investments, so that they can generate results later, both for the short and long term, but in reality they are more inclined towards the short term, so what is automatically done is buying and selling of assets in the short term.
Such behavior can distract from the initial goal, therefore the initial goal of buying assets or investing must be determined first. After setting goals, you can choose assets with the following explanation:
Gold
Gold is basically money, so there is Sharia law related to gold, which must be bought in cash, in Muamalah, "hand to hand", the seller's hand hands over the gold, the buyer's hand gives money. So there's no digital gold story, okay! In addition, don't forget that there is a nishab and haul of gold, if it reaches 85 grams and has been owned for one Hijriyah year, then it is subject to gold zakat of 2.5%.
For gold jewelry, the price of gold and the cost of the manufacturing services must be separated, including if there are other materials the price must be separate.
From an economic point of view, gold is intrinsically indeed a valuable item that is not eroded by time, so it is often called a "safe haven", gold is suitable for storage to meet future needs, or inherited to children, because the "increase" on average a year of 5.9%, certainly interesting isn't it? Data from ANTAM January 2013 gold price is Rp. 599,200,- /gram, 10 years later in January 2023 the price reaches Rp. 1,016,000,- /gram, meaning that over the last 10 years it has increased by 59%!.
Stocks
Shares are basically proof of ownership of a company, therefore by owning shares entitled to benefits (dividends). Noteworthy, because it is part of the owner of the company, the company's business must be engaged in a halal business, and does not have usury debt, the guidelines just follow the fatwa from the MUI National Sharia Board regarding shares (https://dsnmui.or.id/kategori/fatwa/?s=saham&post_types=all).
Shares of companies that meet the provisions of DSN MUI have the word Sharia in their stock code, choose stocks that have good performance, both in terms of profit, financial ratios, and stock price trends that are actively fluctuating but tend to increase, or if you are still confused, choose stocks that have been included in the list of JII (Jakarta Islamic index) stocks.
Of course, the average increase in stock price of each company is different, always adjust to each profile before buying shares, whether aggressive or conservative. In short, buying shares is only suitable for long-term purposes, because short selling can fall on usury.
Land
Land also has Sharia legal consequences, for example land that is abandoned for three years, can lose ownership according to Sharia, in a hadith the Prophet said: "Whoever owns a piece of land, then let him plant it or let him give it to his brother. If he neglects it, then let his land be taken". (Narrated by Bukhari). In addition, some scholars issued the opinion that land should not be rented out, the wisdom of which "forced" the landowner to use it.
Economically, the average increase in land prices can reach 10% or even 20% depending on the attractiveness and character of the location. But if then the land is built boarding houses, for example, then the BEP can be for 8 to 10 years, so the cost of building and buying land and the increase in land prices, can only be felt after 8 years, because there is depreciation of buildings and other problems related to the boarding house business. The most important thing is to remember the provisions of Sharia regarding boarding houses.
Therefore land investment is more suitable for land-related businesses, such as agriculture or plantations or animal husbandry. It can also be above to build a Sharia hotel or Sharia Boarding House, but it will be more powerful land investment for a very long period of time, namely through waqf, because even though the person has died the results will continue to flow until the doomsday comes, very woth it and very interesting isn't it?!.
